The TB12 Tampa Bay Fairytale

March 30, 2021

On the 20th of March 2020, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time packed his things up and left his home of New England to head south to the not so mighty Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady entered the Tampa Bay camp with a wealth of experience: 17 division titles, 13 championship games and 6 Superbowl rings already under his belt. This led to him being regarded by most people as the greatest to ever play the game or the GOAT which was only fair due to everything he had accomplished over his career. But once he announced his $50 million signing with Tampa, there were a lot of concerns as to whether he would continue to be successful.

Brady’s career in New England was a part of arguably the best sporting dynasty ever where the Patriots dominated everyone. But this wasn’t just the Brady era but also the Bill Belicheck Era.

When Brady made his decision to leave New England after a disappointing 20-13 loss to the Titans in the Wild Card round many people ought to indicate that maybe it wasn’t Brady who was the centerpiece of the Patriots dynasty, but instead the just as successful Bill Belicheck. This left many fans, including myself very intrigued in the 2020 season and how the New England Patriots would ‘post-Brady’ and how Brady will manage in Tampa with a team that were coming off a disappointing 7-9 season.

The hype around the Buccaneers increased when ex Superbowl winning teammate of Brady’s Rob Gronkowski decided to come out of retirement and sign a $9 million deal to join Brady in Tampa. The offense was now looking scary with Tom Brady having weapons of Mike Evans 3x Pro Bowler, Chris Godwin 1x Pro Bowler and Rob Gronkowski 5x Pro Bowler and 4x Super Bowl champion.

Fast forward six months and Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are Superbowl champions after finishing the season 11-5 and then beating the ‘unstoppable’ Mahomes and his Chiefs 31-9 in the big dance.

Throughout the year Tampa Bay managed to add other weapons like Antonio Brown and Leonard Fournette which definitely helped in boosting their Superbowl odds. It was also clear to see the improvement in the relationship between Arians and Brady and the Todd Bowles defence was starting to stand up.

Many people would say it was Tampa’s defense which won them the Superbowl, which is true in some ways as without them standing up in this game, it probably would’ve been a totally different result. But Tom Brady is the man that got them to the Superbowl and changed the whole Tampa Bay organisation. With Brady under-center anything could happen and with his skill and experience he guided the Buccaneers to their 2nd ever Superbowl title.

This will forever be remembered as one of the greatest stories of success in sporting history.
