This Saturday the Gold Coast Titans face off against the Canberra Raiders at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium. A matchup which seems to excite rugby league fans around the nation. Although only round 4, stakes are high for both teams as the Titans seek to solidify themselves as a legitimate contender for this year’s competition. The depleted Raiders although lacking that explosiveness on the edge with the loss of Curtis Scott and Joseph Tapine, have never been known to back down from a fight. A real challenge will be placed for this Raiders side, but Ricky Stuart will hopefully confirm that they are not here to muck around.
A young titan’s line-up is adjusting to the brutalness of what is the NRL. However, with less points conceded and better tackle efficiency, defensively the Titans are going to present a real challenge for the opposition. With absolute workhorses in both forward packs including David Fifita, Josh Papalii, Mitch Rein and more there is no doubt both sides will have a few bumps and bruises after the game.
However, the battle of the halves is ultimately going to determine who comes out victorious. In form Jamal Fogarty and inexperienced Tannah Boyd in my opinion will struggle to contain powerhouse Jack Wighton and England National George Williams. Both present too much of a threat with or without the ball as we have seen this past couple of seasons.
Although the Titans are looking extremely good this season, finally gelling as a unit, I fail to see how their youngsters will be able to contain the sheer size and power of the opposition. Once again David Fifita may be their saving grace, although for this one I am tipping Raiders by 8.
